Notes and Thoughts on College Football Every Day: College Football Teams in New England

September 4th:

  • In front of 42,454 fans at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, the UMass dominated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 37-21. Minutemen (and former UMaine) head coach Joe Harasymiak – who picked up his first win after an 0-12 debut in 2025 – was pleased, but not surprised with the win.

  • After getting blown out at home by No. 8 Rhode Island last Friday night, Merrimack hit the road to take on Delaware, where the Blue Hens blew out the Warriors, 42-7. It doesn’t get much easier for Merrimack, as they head up to Orono next weekend to take on the Black Bears.

  • With each team adding 30+ new faces in 2026, the Boston College at Cincinnati game should be close. The Eagles will be starting Mason McKenzie, a Division II transfer from Saginaw Valley State.

  • The Jason Candle Era at UConn gets going this weekend, and the Huskies should have a pretty easy time beating their FCS opponent, Lafayette - whose game last week against Georgetown was postponed because of weather.
