Female Mascots in FBS College Football

Updated:  03/28/23:  No idea how I overlooked Miss Reveille…and now I have added Stella the Owl (Temple)

Alberta Gator (Florida):  The female counterpart to Albert appeared in 1984.  She loves playing practical jokes on fans with her spider on a stick, and her personality is the perfect mix of sassy and classy.

Frieda Falcon (Bowling Green):  Though she made her initial appearance back in 1966 as Mrs. Freddie Falcon, Frieda emerged officially in 1980 as Freddie’s little sister and sidekick.  Together they have been known to sport trademark orange Chuck Taylor’s!

Josephine Bruin (UCLA): The first female mascot, Josie joined the sideline back in 1967. Josie is best known for blowing kisses like a beauty queen, waving like she’s British Royalty, and most importantly bear hugs (lots of them!).

Lobo Lucy (New Mexico):  Created in the early 1980s, Lucy joined Louie (created in the early 1960s) – and both are now members of the cheerleading squad.

Marigold (Baylor):  This lovable bear was introduced during the 2017 football season, and with counterpart Bruiser, she entertains Baylor fans young and old across the state of Texas and the country.  In fact, Marigold has even entertained far in Shanghai, China!

Miss Pawla (South Alabama):  A newcomer, this Jaguar has been described as a prissy-flirty feminine feline that is a cool cat.

Miss Reveille (Texas A&M): The first of two live mascots listed here, Miss Reveille has reigned as the First Lady of Aggieland since 1931. She is cared for by a Mascot Corporal, who cares for her all year - she goes to class with him or her, out on dates, and even home for the holidays. The Mascot Corporal, in turn, escorts her to all of her functions and Aggie engagements.

Mrs. Wuf (NC State):  Initially known as Ms. Wuf, she married Mr. Wuf in 1981, at a basketball game between the Wolfpack and Wake Forest.  The Demon Deacon presided over the wedding in front of 12k fans.

Ralphie the Buffalo (Colorado): The second of two live mascots in this list. She can reach the speed of 25 mph and Ralphie has been known to knock over her handlers on more than one occasion.

Rocksy the Rockette (Toledo): In 2011, it was determined that Rocky the Rocket needed a counterpart to help spread UToledo spirit throughout the community, so Rocksy was created. She has been Rocky’s sidekick ever since, and they are the best of pals - nothing more.

Sasha the Cougar (Houston): In 1995, the Houston cheerleaders put a box in the middle of the field, and the game announcers brought up the gift that the team was giving to Shasta the Cougar. He opened the box, and out popped Sasha. They have been sidekicks ever since - even doing push-ups for every point scored during a football game.

Scarlet (Arkansas State): In 2008, Arkansas State changed their mascot name to Red Wolves, which led to the creation of Scarlet. Now paired with Howl, they are, in one fan’s point of view, “the cutest mascot couple in the universe!”

Stella (Temple): A great horned owl, Stella began her career as Temple’s live mascot in 2013. During home games, she can be found cheering on the sidelines of Lincoln Financial Field alongside Temple’s official mascot, Hooter.

Sue E. Pig (Arkansas):  Sue appeared in the 1990s, and her name is derived from the popular “Calling the Hogs” chant – “Wooo Pig Sooie”.

Wilma Wildcat (Arizona):  Almost thirty years after Wilbur was created, Wilma arrived on the scene in 1986.  She loves to high-five students around campus and make people feel the Wildcat spirit.

Zippy (Akron):  In 2007, Zippy was the winner of the national Capital One Mascot of the Year Challenge.
