2025 New England College Football Games: Division I

Week1:

8/29:

Campbell at Rhode Island:  Last year’s matchup was the first-ever CAA football game for the Fighting Camels.  Rhode Island leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2024)

New Haven at Marist:  For the Chargers first game as a Division I football team, they will travel to Poughkeepsie, NY for the first time since 1973.  Marist leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 1973)

 

8/30:

Fordham at Boston College:  First time the Rams and the Eagles have played since 1954.  BC leads the all-time series 14-11-2 (series started 1912)

Central Connecticut at UConn:  Last meeting between these two teams from the Constitution State was during the 2022 season – Jim Mora’s first season on the Husky sideline.  UConn leads the all-time series 4-0 (series started in 1986)

Temple at UMass:  The Minutemen are looking for their first win over the Owls.  Temple leads the all-time series 3-0 (series started in 2015)

Bryant at New Mexico State:  The Bulldogs are 0-3 all-time against FBS opponents.  First-ever meeting

UMaine at Liberty:  In their only previous meeting, the Flames came out on top, 59-44.  Liberty leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2019)

UNH at NC Central:  Two years ago, the Eagles shocked the Wildcats in Durham, 45-27.  NC Central leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2022)

Merrimack at Kent State:  This will probably be the Golden Flash’s best chance to end their long losing streak – which stands at 21 right now.  First-ever meeting 

Stonehill at Sacred Heart:  After dropping the first meeting to the Pioneers, the Skyhawks have won the last two games between these former NEC opponents.  Stonehill leads the all-time series 2-1 (series started in 2022)

Holy Cross at Northern Illinois:  First game against a member of the MAC that resides in the Midwest.  First-ever meeting

 

 

Week 2:

9/6:

Boston College at Michigan State:  Eagles won last year’s matchup at Chestnut Hill, 23-19.  BC leads the all-time series 5-1-1 (series started in 1935)

UConn at Syracuse:  Second straight year the Huskies visit the JMA Wireless Dome (Carrier Dome).  Syracuse leads the all-time series 7-6 (series started in 2004)

Bryant at UMass:  First game between these two programs since 2008 and only the second meeting between the two schools.  UMass leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2008)

UMaine at William & Mary:  The Black Bears first CAA game of the year is against a familiar opponent – who is leaving the CAA for the Patriot League in 2026.  W&M leads the all-time series 9-8 (series started in 1993)

Holy Cross at UNH:  These programs first met more than 100 years ago, but this game will be just the 20th meeting overall – this being the 9th this century.  UNH leads the all-time series 10-9 (series started in 1909)

Rhode Island at Stony Brook:  After losing the first seven matchups, the Rams have reeled off three straight wins over the Seawolves.  Stony Brook leads the all-time series 7-3 (series started in 2013)

Saint Anselm at Merrimack:  The Warriors and Hawks were conference opponents in NE-10 (Div. II) from 2001 thru 2018.  Merrimack leads the all-time series 16-6 (series started in 1999)

Sacred Heart at Lehigh:  A tough game for the Pioneers as the Mountain Hawks surprisingly won the Patriot League last year, and are co-favorites to win it again this season.  Sacred Heart leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2019)

Week 3:

9/13:

Boston College at Stanford:  BC’s road trips will not get much longer than this.  All-time series tied 2-2 (series started in 1979)

UConn at Delaware:  Former Yankee and A10 Conference opponents from 1986 to 1999.  Delaware leads the all-time series 20-7 (series started in 1951)

UMass at Iowa:  Both head coaches in this game (Joe Harasymiak and Kirk Ferentz) were head coaches at UMaine.  First-ever meeting

Bentley at Bryant:  Former NE-10 (Div. II) opponents from 1999-2007.  Bentley leads the all-time series 5-4 (series started in 1999)

Stonehill at UMaine:  The Black Bears will host the Skyhawks for the first time in program history in their home opener.  First-ever meeting

UNH at Ball State:  With their win over the Cardinals in 2009, it was the Wildcats fifth straight win over an FBS team at the time (1-14 since).  UNH leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2009)

Rhode Island at Holy Cross:  These two New England teams wrap up their rare home-and-home series in Worcester on Fitton Field.  Holy Cross leads the all-time series 9-2 (series started in 1917)

Merrimack at Kennesaw State:  The Warriors moved up to the FCS in 2019, while the Owls got to the FBS last year.  First-ever meeting

Sacred Heart at LIU:  After winning the first three games in the series, the Pioneers have now lost the last three to their former NEC opponent.  All-time series is tied 3-3 (series started in 2019)

Week 4:

9/20:

Ball State at UConn:  The first of two consecutive MAC opponents that the Huskies will face.  Ball State leads the all-time series 4-0 (series started in 2000)

Bryant at Campbell:  The Bulldogs defeated the Camels, 43-37, in 2022 when they members of the Big South.  Bryant leads the all-times series 1-0 (series started in 2022)

UMaine at Georgia Southern:  UMaine’s second FBS matchup of 2025 against another former FCS school.  Georgia Southern leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2019)

UNH at Dartmouth:  The Granite State rivalry is renewed up in Hanover on Memorial Field – where the Wildcats won the last time they took the field up at Dartmouth.  UNH leads the all-time series 21-20-2 (series started in 1901)

LIU at Rhode Island:  URI snuck by the Sharks on the road last year, 28-21.  All-time series is tied 1-1 (series started in 1975 – when LIU was known as the C. W. Post Pioneers)

Central Connecticut at Merrimack:  A renewal of two former NEC members that were conference opponents for a short time.  CCSU leads the all-time series 3-2 (series started in 2007)

Sacred Heart at Norfolk State:  These two programs faced off last year in Fairfield, CT – a game in which the Pioneers snuck by the Spartans at home, 10-3.  Sacred Heart leads the all-time series 2-0 (series started in 2022)

Holy Cross at Yale:  Last year’s meeting was in doubt until the Bulldogs scored a touchdown with 12 seconds to play to end a three-game losing streak to the Crusaders.  Yale leads the all-time series 30-8 (series started in 1903)

Georgetown at Brown:  The Bears kick off their 139th season of football (first game in 1878) with a matchup against the Hoyas – a team they beat last year on the road, 26-14.  Brown leads the all-time series 6-1 (series started in 2005)

Harvard at Stetson:  On a rainy Saturday last fall, the Crimson held the Hatters to 101 yards of total offense in a easy 35-0 win over the visitors.  Harvard leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2024)

Week 5:

9/27: 

California at Boston College:  Only meeting between these schools took place in 1986.  BC leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 1986)

UConn at Buffalo:  The Huskies won last year’s game handily at home, 47-3.  UConn leads the all-time series 17-5 (series started in 1939)

UMass at Missouri:  Last year the Tigers beat the Minutemen easily on the road, 45-3.  Missouri leads the all-time series 1-0 (series started in 2024)

Towson at Bryant:  The Bulldogs are starting a three-game homestand, it’s first since 2013, when they face Towson.  First-ever meeting

North Carolina A&T at UMaine:  UMaine jumps back into conference play in another showdown with a first-time opponent.  First-ever meeting

Albany at UNH:  After ending a 3-game losing streak to the Great Danes, the Wildcats have now won three-in-a-row to take back the series lead.  UNH leads the all-time series 8-5 (series started in 2008)

Rhode Island at Western Michigan:  The Rams are receiving a $350k check for playing the Broncos in Kalamazoo.  First-ever meeting

Merrimack at Stony Brook:  These two programs have met twice in a home-and-home series around 25 years ago.  Stony Brook leads the all-time series 2-0 (series started in 1997)

Delaware State at Sacred Heart:  The two previous meetings have been decided by a total of five points.  All-time series tied 1-1 (series started in 2014)

Holy Cross at Fordham:  During the Crusaders eight-game winning streak in the Ram-Crusader Cup, Holy Cross has not led at halftime in any of the games.  Holy Cross leads the all-time series 35-25-2 (series started in 1902)

Brown at Harvard:  The Bears snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Crimson when the scored the winning touchdown with 21 seconds left in the game.  Harvard leads the all-time series 90-31-2 (series started in 1893)

Dartmouth at Central Connecticut:  Defending Ivy League champion meets the defending NEC champion in a rematch from last year – a game won by the Big Green, 20-16.  Dartmouth leads the all-time series 3-0 (series started in 2014)

Cornell at Yale:  After having lost 8 of 9 games to the Bulldogs from 2013 thru 2022, the Big Red have now won two straight in the series.  Yale leads the all-time series 52-32-2 (series started in 1889)
